My passion with Steadicam began in 1985 when Toby Phillips asked Garrett to Australia to be lead instructor at one of the first ever workshops in Australia. Since then I have owned several rigs and worked on many features, tv drama's and music videos and also worked as a instructor here and at Malibu.

Hugo asked me several years ago after servicing my 3a arm if I had a wish list of what my likes and dislikes were about my arm. Today,  apart from the bones of my 3a arm, Hugo has re-designed and built every component from the New Silver Springs (great range ), all new sealed bearing, trunnions etc, etc.

We all know what a great work horse the 3a arm  has been over the last 20 years. The new design upgrade has given my old  arm another 20 years of great flying. I can now fly a Mini DV Cam one day and a Panavision Light Weight the next with the same great feel .

"I'm Macca. I've been muscling around a 3A arm for 10 years. Everything from a Panavised BLIII with E series anamorphics (Oscar and Lucinda '96) to a TV series HD (Guinevere Jones '02). I tested the arm above months ago at Panavision Melbourne. I have recently used it on three TV's. Two with 16 SRIII and one with a 435. The 16 jobs were with fashion models so of course, I didn't take a whole lot of not of notice of the arm. For the 435 commercial the arm was hard mounted on a quad bike while tracking with Greg Norman as he ran through a park. Greg doesn't like to hang around too long and if he's jogging he likes to get somewhere. This arm helped to get Greg out quickly. It's smoother than my 3A. It's very easy to push around. I don't have to muscle as much."

After the arm upgrade I spent a week in the desert doing a 4wd commercial. We were on a salt lake, 52º Celsius in the shade, and with the dust and wind on other days, it was pretty well the most unkind place that anyone would take camera equipment. The arm performed perfectly, it didn't miss a beat as one would expect, considering Hugo's individual approach and attention to every one of the 432 plus parts in the arm. Everything you would expect from Rig Engineering. I've also been shooting other advertisements as well as a car rally and I'm looking forward to shooting the Grand Prix in March. The arm is smooth, quiet, and lovely to work with. I love my upgrade.

"My Steadicam career dates back some 27 years. I was one the first Steadicam operators in Australia where I started out as an operator at a television station. In this time I've seen Steadicam grow from its infantile stage to what it is today. I have freelanced from advertisements through to feature films. In all these years I thought I had seen it all, there are things we never cease to learn and stand in awe of … when I got my hands on the arm … wow!! … the smooth effortless gliding control, its beautiful craftsmanship finish and the touch … instant response and balance, magnificent! This is what I've been waiting for to change to and it's a definite must have priority. Hugo, you have won over my endorsement for such outstanding success in such an integral part of our craft, and from your engineering stable we can be sure to be tempted with many more quality surprises. Many, many thanks … Congratulations!"

"I have owned and have been flying my Silver Springs™ arm upgrade for 9 months now and I am totally satisfied with the results, it's never let me down. I do jobs that require the use of lightweight cameras through to medium to heavier cameras. It's been a real asset being able to carry all weights of cameras. A great investment."
